Botanic Montage 2022
My maternal grandparents were avid gardeners who proudly showcased their large array of botanical wonders including camellias, orchids, fuchsias, roses, and birds of paradise. Within this setting I developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of floral elements, not only the bold colors and larger composition but also the deeper details present in each unique specimen. In this portfolio I invite the viewer to focus on these details – the shapes, textures, wrinkles, curves, and points – that may be missed at quick glance. To this end, it was intentional to use a macro lens for these images, to mute the colors to eliminate their easy distraction, and to place images against a stark background so that the eye is naturally guided to the finer features.
